DB983583 is a vital part of the AVRHT's engineering fleet. This wagon is a ballast hopper which means it can carry ballast, which is used to hold the track in place, and also that it can dispense it through its hopper doors. This vehicle joined the AVRHT collection in March 2013, being purchased from MOD Bicester.  DB983583 can be seen being used during track work and occasionally in demonstration freight. This vehicle is vacuum braked.
